Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery is a two-stage technological surgical procedure performed by placing precise electrodes into targeted areas of the brain while the patient is awake under local anesthesia, and then connecting these electrodes to a battery system placed in the chest area under the skin while the patient is under general anesthesia.
Scoliosis surgery is a procedure where vertebrae are stabilized with screws and rods through an incision in the back or waist to correct the spinal curvature, followed by the application of bone grafts to fuse the spine into a straight line.
While surgical wounds after deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery heal in about 2 weeks, returning to social life with the final battery adjustments takes 1 to 3 months; in scoliosis surgery, although discharge from the hospital takes 5-7 days and returning to daily routines takes 4-6 weeks, full spinal fusion and transitioning to heavy activities can take between 6 months and 1 year.
